刘昭前教授同时还在多家一类核心学术期刊兼任编委等学术职务，主要有：《中国药理学通报》、《中国临床药理学与治疗学》、《中南大学学报（医学版）》、《中南药学》、《Journal of Diabetes Research and Clinical Metabolism》、《Journal of Diabetes and Metabolism》、《Journal of Cancer ABC》等等。
刘昭前教授长期从事肺癌，糖尿病，癫痫等重大疾病的遗传药理学和药物基因组学基础与临床应用研究，主持多项国家自然科学基金课题，发表多篇肺癌相关SCI文章，如：Yin JY, Shen J, Dong ZZ, Huang Q, Zhong MZ, Feng DY, Zhou HH, Zhang JT, Liu ZQ#. Molecular basis of eIF3a action in therapeutic response of lung cancer patients to platinum-based chemotherapy. Clinical Cancer Research, 2011(IF=6.747)等等。在基因多态性与肺癌耐药的机制研究和肺癌个体化治疗、2型糖尿病药物基因组学研究等方面均取得了较大的成就。
